PNG's NIGEL DABINYABA GRACING MALAYSIAN SUPER LEAGUE

Papua New Guinea Kapuls striker Nigel Dabinyaba has taken Malaysian soccer followers by storm getting a headstart running in the pre-season for Penang FA. Dabinyaba who had a short stint with Canterbury United Dragons FC in New Zealand has left for the Malaysian Super League early this year.
Dabinyaba from a mixed parentage of Oro and East New Britain is one of PNG's most successful soccer player who has made his way from a teenager with the PNGFA Academy in Lae. Growing up in Lae's Papuan Compound, the Dabinyaba family are neighbors to the Gunembas. Nigel grew up kicking the soccer ball with big brothers Raymond and Troy Gunemba under the guidance of their father and Lae City Dwellers coach Peter Gunemba.
Nigel grew up playing for the family team, Poro FC which won several grand-finals in the Lae Football Association. That was when his interest with soccer grew,and he never looked back spending most of his time at the training field.
Following the foot steps of Raymond, Nigel was scouted by the Besta Development team and had the first taste of semi professional football playing the National Soccer League. Raymond moved over to Hekari United FC and Nigel joined him him later as a young prospect for Hekari. Nigel fitted in well into the Hekari camp and was a leading force in the team's success in the NSL ad abroad in the OFC Champions League.
Raymond and Nigel made the exodus from Hekari in 2015 to play for their city and province and joined Lae City Dwellers. Dwellers was formed under the leadership Peter Gunemba and several businesses, political and soccer supporters in Lae.
Nigel and Raymond led a young crop of players, whom most of them haven't had the taste of semi professional football. LCD under the guidance of Raymond and Nigel believed in commitment to training, respect and discipline. Spiritual fitness was also a key factor in their short and successful history.
LCD finished on top of the NSL ladder in 2015 an dbooked their first OFC Champ[ions League appearance in 2016. That same year they defeated longtime champions Hekari United to defend their NSL title.
Nigel went on to play for the PNG National Team who narrowly went down to Oceania Champions New Zealand in the grandfinal. Nigel was given a contract and had a short stint with Western Pride FC in Australia.
He then moved over to New Zealand where he played with Canterbury United Dragons FC. Hehas now joined Penang FA in Malaysia in the pre seaon of the Malaysian Super League.
Nigel Dabinyaba is also part of the PNG Kapuls team that will be playing in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Tahiti and Solomon Islands in March.
