MAPAI'S GREATEST AMBASSADORS
Many trucking companies have been considering their Highway drivers as threats to their business when considering their negative behavior and conduct from stealing and selling fuel, selling tires and tools, harsh cornering and braking and capsizing trucks with customers’ cargo.
Mapai Transport has moved away from placing this perception on its Highway drivers and considers them as its greatest and number one asset in the business.
Echoing his appreciation on the company’s Highway drivers, the Managing Director, Mr. Jacob Luke says they are Mapai’s greatest ambassadors flying the company flag on the Highway and into the most daunting and rugged terrain and treacherous of road conditions.
“They move trucks under very tiring and difficult of conditions and trucking companies must not see them as their greatest threat, rather they must see them as equals and colleagues in the business. They do the hard yards, they earn the money, and we spend the money and run the business,” says Mr. Luke.
“Remember, Rome was not built in a day. And the same analogy applies to Highway drivers.”
He stated that at Mapai and in any other trucking business, we must place equal value on our Highway drivers as we do to the rest of the employees.
While acknowledging that drivers have not always been honest in their driving duties, he believes that if you look after them well in terms of pay and other incentives, they will change their mind set over time.

I concur with the account of the Managing Director of Mapai that good wages and incentives are key success factors in trucking business. I once had a trucking operation and know what it takes to grow this type of business. Well done Mapai. Making PNG proud.
