ARE WE DOING ENOUGH TO COMBAT PORNOGRAPHY?

In Papua New Guinea, pornography is generally illegal and subject to strict regulation. The country has deeply rooted cultural and religious values that view explicit content as highly inappropriate. 

Many local communities, influenced by traditional customs and Christianity, see pornography as harmful to social and moral standards.

The laws in PNG are quite stringent when it comes to the distribution, possession, or creation of pornographic material. 

The Cybercrime Act of 2016 specifically addresses online offenses, including the distribution of explicit content, making it illegal to distribute or share pornography through digital platforms.

Additionally, there are regulations on other forms of media to ensure that explicit content does not circulate in society.

However, with the increase in internet access, some concerns have arisen regarding the unregulated spread of such materials online.

Authorities are working to monitor and curb this, though enforcement in rural areas can be challenging due to limited resources and infrastructure.

Cultural taboos around sexuality and nudity, combined with the strong influence of the church, contribute to the societal stigma associated with pornography. Public debates often frame the issue within the context of preserving cultural integrity and protecting the youth from harmful influences. 

In summary, pornography is not only illegal in Papua New Guinea but also viewed as a serious moral and social issue, with both the legal framework and cultural attitudes strongly opposing its presence.
